Casablanca
“Here’s looking at you, kid.”—Rick Blaine (Humphrey Bogart), Casablanca (1943)
Q#1) Consider the individual elements of the film mentioned by Ebert and Tobias. Is it true that taking away even one element would greatly compromise Casablanca?
A: I think it would compromise the movie because, the elements that the movie uses are not bright and eye catching. The elements used are more subtle and have deeper meaning, which if you pay attention, it will really draw you in to the movie. If they took any elements away, it would make the movie quite bland and boring, but this is because the elements are very subtle. For example, in a movie with bright and eye catching elements, you could easily take one element out without compromising the movie because the other elements are big and powerful, and can pretty much stand on their own.
Q#2) Which of the supporting performances really stands out in your mind? Why?
A: The Police Chief is the best character. He is the best character because, he is really funny. His reactions are hilarious, and for a man with small physical stature, he commands a big role on the screen. He is also manages to be one of the funniest characters while at the same time being one of the most despicable characters.
Q#3) Think about some of the film’s most famous (though often misquoted) lines of dialogue. Why do you think these lines are familiar to people who have never seen the movie?
A: These lines would seem familiar because the lines are spoken in a way that we would say them. For example, the quotes said in the movie are "misquoted" because the lines are using proper grammer and that is what we are use to using, improper grammer.
Q#4) Agree or disagree: Casablanca is the perfect date movie. Explain your answer.
A: I think it is not the perfect date movie because I find too boring for a date movie. It is a good movie but it is too serious, in my opinion, for a date movie.
